As part of the renewal of our national banknote family, this innovative design seeks to highlight our natural wealth and to represent a new way of raising awareness about the preservation of the environment. Casa de Moneda put its knowledge and experience to guarantee a high artistic quality and the security that the monetary emblem of our country imposes.
The $500 banknote combines easily detectable public security measures with state-of-the-art document security technologies for verification by banking authorities and forensics.
The Value of the Autochthonous
The figure of the jaguar inaugurates a new concept in the national monetary history by taking the theme of Argentine fauna. Its effigy rests on backgrounds composed of various specimens of native flora such as guayabí leaves and laurel flowers. Just as each reverse side of the banknotes in this family refers to a different region of our country, the 500-peso banknote represents the northeastern region, depicted with the presence of the Nautical Rose and shading of the region on the national map. Highlighted in this design is the vignette created by our engravers, depicting the Yungas Jungle, the natural habitat of the jaguar.
The Nexonum prize of Spain recognized the jaguar banknote as the best in the world among those issued in 2016. In addition, it received the LatiNum Prize for the best Latin American banknote 2015-2016. In 2017, it was chosen by the International Bank Note Society among the four best banknotes in the world for its artistic merit, design, use of color and security measures.
