Bicentennial of the University of Buenos Aires

Casa de Moneda presented a commemorative medal specially designed and produced by our workers for the Bicentennial celebrations.

On August 9, in the Assembly Hall of the annex building of the Faculty of Economic Sciences, the President of CMA – Casa de Moneda Argentina, Lic. Rodolfo Gabrielli, presented the highest authorities of the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA) and the president of the Correo Argentino, Mrs. Vanesa Piesciorovski, a commemorative medal specially designed and produced by our workers for the Bicentennial celebrations.

Of 30 millimetres in diameter, 2.3 millimetres thick and weighing 13 grams, made of cupronickel alloy and silver in color, the commemorative medal presents the Emblem of the University on its obverse and the inscription “1821 – 2021. UBA” on its reverse.

During the award ceremony, Rodolfo Gabrielli expressed: “In these two centuries, the UBA has become a true educational and cultural bastion of our country. Its story fills all Argentines with pride. It is a true honour for Casa de Moneda, and for its Design team, to be able to stand today with the Universidad de Buenos Aires in this very important celebration.”

For his part, the rector of the university, Dr. Alberto Barbieri, celebrated the participation and contribution of CMA and Correo Argentino. “This university was born with our country. Its entire history was made hand in hand with the Argentine people, and together with prestigious and deeply rooted institutions such as the Correo Argentino and Casa de Moneda. It is an honour to celebrate these 200 years together”.

Lastly, the president of Correo Argentino, Vanesa Piesciorovski, handed over the “UBA 200” postage stamp. The commemorative vignette, which will have a circulation of 20,000 copies, is a replica of the University’s Mayor Seal with the legend: “200 años formando future” (the leitmotiv of the celebrations for the bicentennial of the institution).
